Dr. ZS Meharwal

Dr. Z.S. Meharwal is the Chairman and Head of Adult Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplantation, and the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) program at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, where he is also part of the founding team of doctors. With over 30 years of experience in cardiac surgery, Dr. Meharwal has performed more than 30,000 surgeries, including complex heart operations and LVAD procedures. He is a pioneer in several innovative cardiac operations in India and has made significant contributions to the field.

Dr. Meharwal has been deeply involved in teaching and training the next generation of cardiac surgeons. As the Programme Director of DNB Cardiothoracic Surgery at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, he has trained numerous cardiac surgeons who are now leading independent practices across the globe. He has been a regular faculty member at national and international meetings and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Saharanpur Aditya Samman by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2005 for his significant contribution to the medical field.
  • Entered into the Limca Book of Records in 2008 for performing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG) on a 94-year-old man, making him the oldest patient to undergo the procedure.
